ブルネッロ・ディ・モンタルチーノ 2020 ジャンニ・ブルネッリ
　《イタリア／トスカーナ／赤／サンジョヴェーゼ／フルボディ》

元々ジャンニの父はワインメーカーとしてワイン業界に携わっていたようですが、所有していた畑を売却し、オステリア経営がメインとしていた時代がありました。シエナにオステリア・レ・ロッジェは、ガンベロロッソのレストランガイドでも高い評価を受けるオステリアとなります。

息子であるジャンニがモンタルチーノに戻ったのは1987年のこと。父親が所有していた海抜約250mの「レ・キウーゼ・ディ・ソット」地区の畑を買い戻します。「レ・キウーゼ・ディ・ソット」はモンタルチーノの北東にあり所有する5haのうち、2haはオリーブの樹が、2haはサンジョヴェーゼが栽培されています。1990年代半ば、ジャンニとラウラはポデーレ・ノヴォーネを購入、こちらはモンタルチーノ南東部の海抜470mから510mの斜面に位置するアグリツーリズモで、4.5haのサンジョヴェーゼと、少しのメルロの畑があり、オルモ、オリーヴァ、クエルチア、ゲルソの４カ所のブドウ畑で構成されます。またポデーレ・ノヴォーネには2015年に新しい熟成庫が完成しました。

ポデーレ・ノヴォーネ地区は海抜350m（近年の資料は500m）、南西向きで1997年（近年の資料は1998年）に植樹されたもの。また、海抜200m（近年の資料は250m）のカナリッキオ地区の北西向きの畑からは1989に植樹されたブドウが使用されます。この畑の情報は、RDM、アンナータと共通ですので、同じ畑からとなりますが、その中でも樹齢や棟に違いがあるのかもしれません。27度から28度に温度管理されたタンクで6日間のアルコール発酵と、32度で12日から16日間のマセラシオン。2,500Lと3,000Lのスラヴォニア産の大樽で30ヶ月、瓶詰後12ヶ月の熟成が施されます。残念ながらジャンニは2008年に亡くなられましたが、現在は妻であるラウラがワインの生産やレストランのオーナーを務めています。

Pouring a medium red hue, the 2020 Brunello Di Montalcino shows more depth at first impression, with darker cherry fruit, licorice, and deeper mineral tones on the nose, while still holding onto terrific clarity. The palate is medium to full-bodied and long, with ripe tannins, refreshing acidity, and a salty finish that stays focused and energetic without drifting toward oxidation. It’s showing beautifully today and should drink well for 15-20 years. Drink 2026-2046.

The Gianni Brunelli Le Chiuse di Sotto 2020 Brunello di Montalcino is balanced, finely textured and shows smooth consistency over the palate. There is a lot of life in this vibrant Brunello. Red and purple fruits segue to sweet earth and iris root. I especially love the mouthfeel achieved here. It's that combination of richness and extreme silkiness that sets it apart.

The olfactory silhouette opens on notes of dog rose, cherry, undergrowth. A typically Sangiovese texture with pulpy, full fruit and slightly tense tannins, countered by contrasting freshness and a compelling finish. Two distinct plots for seven hectares under vine: north-east in the Le Chiuse area and south-east of Montalcino in Podernovone (where the winery is located).

The 2020 Brunello di Montalcino entices with a seductive bouquet of crushed cherries and strawberries elevated by hints of mint, cedar and saddle leather. This is a more graceful and elegant style, with medium-bodied textures and pure wild berry fruit notes that ride a wave of brisk acidity. The 2020 echoes with nuances of licorice and blue and purple inner florals while leaving a subtle coating of fine tannins that frame the experience quite nicely.
